Christ the Redeemer is a colossal statue of the Jesus Christ located at the summit of the Mount Corcovado where is in the Rio de Janerio. This iconic statue constructed in 1931 and more than 30 meters hall. Christ the Redeemer statues presents the Jesus Christ with open and outstretched arms up to the 30 meters and embrace humanity. What Does the Christ the Redeemer Symbolize?

Of course, Christianity. In the 1850s Pedro Maria Boss who was the Vincentian priest suggested constructing a monument honour princess Isabe, daughter of Emperor Pedro II. At that time, this offer and project weren’t approved. But in 1921 it came to a body. After the granting of the permission on 4 April 1922 to commemorate the centennial on that day of Brazil’s independence from Portugal foundation stone was laid. By the laying down the foundation stone, design of the statue still hadn’t decided yet.

At the same year, a competition held to choose the perfect one and Brazillian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa won it. By the collaboration of him and the Brazillian artist Carlos Oswald plan decided. Christ the Redeemer statue constructed at the summit of the Mount Corcovado and it can be seen from everywhere in Rio de Janerio which is impressive. After the construction Chris, the Redeemer quickly became the symbol of the Rio de Janerio as expected.

During the years, many renovation efforts made out to keep the statue in shape especially before visiting of Pope John Paul II in 1980. Escalators and panoramic features added during the year of 2002 instead of stairs which surely increased the number of the tourist.

You can take buses from here to reach the foothill of the Mount Corcovado. Then walk and walk 🙂 There are of course private tours which will take you from your hotel and take to Christ the Redeemer.

Visiting the Christ The Redeemer

The best time to visit Chris the Redeemer statue is, of course, a sunny and open-sky one. Because only like this you will enjoy and experience the stunning view from it. By buying tour tickets for the statue you will take a train ride through the urban forest with really nice iconic sights. This train ride will offer to you to see the Tijuca Forest, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay. By the way, Tijuca Forest is the largest urban forest in the world! This train ride will end at the foot of the statue where are a museum and chapel located. There is a different type of tours for the Christ the Redeemer. Just be sure to get your confirmation before your arrival. If you want to hike to the statue it is also allowed. But it will take a couple of hours and maybe exhausting. Prices are quite low when you compare to the others because of the low value of Brazillian currency.
