Goreme National Park: Home of Fairy Chimneys

Goreme National Park where is in the Cappadocia region home of the thousands of fascinating fairy chimneys that attract over a million people every year.  Cappadocia is one of the most touristic regions of Turkey. Fairy chimneys that formed with wind and rain through centuries are the most famous things in the region. Also, there are couple of very famous things to do and see in Cappadocia such as hot ait balloon tour and underground cities. Goreme National Park and Cappadocia region added to the World Heritage List in 1985. In this region, you can also visit Derinkuyu Underground City, Kaymakli Underground City, Karlik Church, St. Theodore Chruch and Soganli Archageologhical site.

Visiting the Goreme National Park

The main entrance of the national park is at the Goreme where the hearth of the Cappadocia. Goreme is just 10 km away from the Nevsehir city center. If you want to go to the park with your private car just follow the Nevsehir-Uchisar road follow the road sign to the park. The route will take only 20 minutes. It is also possible to come to the Goreme with intercity coach buses or flights from various cities of Turkey. Also, you can come to Goreme from Urgup, Avanos or other small settlements around the Cappadocia by using the minibusses.

Best Time to Visit

Considering the weather conditions in the Cappadocia region the best time to visit the park is between March and November. Less rain, more sun. Also, the park is open to the visitor during the year. You can walk through valleys of the Goreme Nationa park on foot or with a horse tour. Even you can rent an ATV. If you are looking for a more adrenaline and different viewpoint join the hot air balloon tour! But I think the best way to explore the park and fairy chimneys is walking. It is not possible to buy Goreme National Park tickets in advance. But it is possible to buy Göreme: Small-Group Full-Day Cappadocia Red Tour  which includes visiting the park. There are also two different types of 1-day tours for Goreme and a couple of other important spots. Also, don’t forget to visit the rock caves and church at the northwest of the entrance of the park.

Goreme National Park is located between Avanos and Urgup, covers a more than 40 square kilometres area. Every single year, more than a million people came to this region to see and experience the heritages of Cappadocia.
